Charshanbe Suri Festival In Somnium Space

For the first time in the history, a Persian traditional festival will open its doors in the Metaverse. Charshanbe Suri is a cultural event in the Persian calendar that happens on the last Tuesday evening before Nowruz, the Iranian New Year).

In this ceremony families and friends gather to make bonfires out of wood and jump over them. They talk, laugh, dance, and eat till midnight.

The Persian name of the festival consists of čahāršanbe (چهارشنبه), the name of Wednesday in the Iranian calendars, and suri (سوری), which has two meanings; it may mean “festive” and it may also mean “scarlet” (in traditional persian and some current local dialects in Iran), which stems from the reddish theme of fire. In specific, since the fire has a basic role in this event, the latter meaning (i.e. the scarlet) makes more sense. – Wikipedia

It is great to see that Somnium Space is truly delivering on the promise of being an open platform, accessible for everyone. It is becoming a cultural diverse place where you can join and learn about the habits of the world.

In more than one sense, Somnium is building bridges.

Metarooz was looking after a good Metaverse world for a long time and after checking popular ones like Decentraland and Sandbox, we found Somnium Space and a whole new world opened up. There are many reasons why we chose SS but the most obvious reasons are the great graphics which make this world more like the real world (and not something cartoony), the ability to rent parcels, build on it and access to VR, which opens up a whole new door to the Metaverse. Also, there are many options like Web, 2D PC and VR. On top of that there are WORLDs, which give us the ability to have our own worlds, which is awesome and allows us to customize our experiences. The Somnium Space team and the discord community are really active and friendly and usually answer us all the time when we need help, so that’s another big reason to pick SS – Metarooz

The Event (When, Where and How)

The event will take place on the 15th of March in Somnium Space on parcel #3009 at 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM (GMT) 10:00 PM – 12:00 PM (Tehran Time) and is organized in partnership with Oasis Meta Games who helped putting it all together and provided the location.

You can join in both VR mode and 2D (PC) mode.

To connect with a VR headset you’ll need the same client. Note however that you will need a powerful laptop and a VR headset for VR mode.

Finding Your Way

Parcel #3009 is north-west of Somnium Waypoint, which is the central town in Somnium Space and the place where you spawn at first login. Simply follow the road past the conference center and you cannot miss it.
