Journey Through the Skies: The Redesigned Somnium Space Map and Its Intriguing Features

Written by Marc Demar

Perhaps somewhat overlooked amidst the groundbreaking developments of the current moment, including the VR1 headset and the upcoming Somnium 3.0 update, are some changes that have quietly taken place.

Specifically, the Somnium Space website has undergone a complete overhaul, and the Somnium map has been significantly improved. The revamped website provides a visually stunning and inviting experience. Upon visiting the site, users are greeted with captivating background videos showcasing the immersive splendor of the upcoming Somnium 3.0 platform. While the site is still a work in progress, its navigation is clear and intuitive. On the left side, users can seamlessly switch focus between Somnium 3.0 and Somnium VR1, and the top menu offers access to various features, including downloading the client, logging in, and exploring the enhanced Somnium map.

Sleek design and intuitive navigation.

Somnium Space Map

The recently redesigned Somnium Space map, accessible through the main site or by visiting map.somniumspace.com directly, is visually striking. Positioned on a massive floating lava rock in the sky, the map features the impressive new Somnium Space HQ at its center, poised to serve as a beacon in the virtual world once Somnium 3.0 is launched. Other notable features include the elevated mountain ranges extending in the northeast and northwest.

In addition to the visual improvements and added elements, the enhanced map introduces extra functionalities not found in the previous version. One notable feature is the ability to export parcels to an Excel (CSV) file, catering to users interested in conducting analyses on parcel data.

However, the most beneficial addition is the capability to seamlessly navigate to any parcel’s web version through the integrated viewer, providing users with a convenient way to explore specific parcels in more detail without ever having to leave the map.

I found this feature to be exceptionally beneficial, enabling me to uncover incredible experiences within minutes that I might not have stumbled upon otherwise.

You have the option to maximize the web parcel for a fully immersive experience, covering your entire screen. To jump to another web parcel, simply close the integrated viewer and select your next parcel of interest.

Navigating the Map

Navigating the map is a breeze. Utilizing your mouse, you can easily zoom, pan, tilt, and rotate. On the right side, a menu provides access to a range of views (such as parcels on sale, heatmap, and more), filter settings, and various view options. Playing around with these settings is an enjoyable experience, allowing you to observe how the map responds.

Pro tip: Incorporate the parcel number into the URL (e.g., map.somniumspace.com/1346), and the map will automatically zoom in to that specific parcel.

To sum up, this updated map will prove to be an essential tool for navigating and comprehending the intricacies of Somnium Space, as well as for uncovering the numerous hidden treasures scattered throughout the landscape. And if you are not yet a member of Somnium Space, perhaps this map will make you curious. I’d say, join the rapidly expanding community and experience firsthand that in Somnium, exceptional is truly the norm!
