Shodah from Somnium Space recently caught up with Dianox to learn more about his creation, his inspiration and more.
The inspiration for the winning world came from an unexpected place: user behavior. “I used to build cozy and detailed places,” Dianox shared, “but everyone just wanted to swim in the water instead of exploring the spaces I made.” That observation sparked a bold idea – to embrace the desire for water-based environments and construct an expansive, tranquil lake instead. “It started as an experiment, but I went a bit too far… and it turned into something beautiful with a super chill vibe.”
The space stands out visually thanks to Dianox’s signature palette of purples and teals – a color identity that runs through all of his creations, helping to create a consistent sense of dreamy immersion.
While his world-building talent might seem innate, Dianox’s journey into VR began with a deeply personal project. Coming from a place of nostalgia, he set out to recreate his grandmother’s house – a place he hadn’t seen in over a decade. “She passed away about 11 years ago,” Dianox explained. “I always wanted to return to that space, and for years I tried sketching it. But it wasn’t until I found VR that I finally had the tools to build it properly.” With few photos to rely on, he reconstructed the house almost entirely from memory, channeling emotion into every corner.
This emotional foundation set the tone for his broader creative work. Though many of his past worlds were made in VRChat, he’s now branching into game development and experimenting with Blender and Unity. “I’m building something big in Blender,” he said, “which I might one day turn into a Unity game. Maybe even something in VR!”
For now, that project remains private – but some day he may turn it into an experience for everyone to enjoy.
