Somnium Space’s Vault 13 (Fallout): Next Installment in the VR Inspired Series

There’s a new World in Somnium Space. Well there are many new worlds. But one we have been looking forward to is the next one in Somnium’s “Inspired Series” (the first one being the amazing Dino Park World). This new world is Vault 13. It obviously draws inspiration from the iconic Fallout games and shows, and it transforms the legendary underground bunker into a vibrant social space. This experience invites users to step into a post-apocalyptic vault that’s equal parts nostalgic homage and modern VR playground. Whether you’re a die-hard Fallout fan or just looking for a unique spot to unwind, Vault 13 offers a blend of discovery, casual hangouts, and high-energy parties in a gritty, radiation-tinged environment.

From the moment you arrive, this world’s attention to detail really shines through. It’s like you step inside Fallout, encouraging you to imagine yourself as a survivor emerging from centuries of isolation. It’s a place for discovery. You’ll find a multi-level atrium with hanging lights, exposed pipes, and a sense of verticality that makes the space feel vast and labyrinthine. It’s perfect for wandering and uncovering hidden nooks. The overall aesthetic nails the series’ retro-futuristic decay, with rusted metals, dimly lit corridors, and a palette of oranges, browns, and greens that scream post-nuclear survival.

A very nice feature is that on one end you’ll find a large screen projecting epic Fallout scenes. And it could very well become an ideal spot for group viewings or themed events. Well, we’ve seen the first example of that already with an amazing underground rave party to kick this place off (and celebrate the premiere of Fallout season 2). It was a huge success and the potential for many more parties is clear. Swing the vault doors open for a night of beats under the bunker lights.

What we like about this place as well is that there are so many spots for discovery and relaxation. There are lounge areas for that cozy atmosphere. Picture dim-lit platforms with grated floors, scattered crates, and a flaming barrel providing warmth, complete with radiation symbols for that authentic Fallout flair. Vault 13 is the kind of spot where you can kick back on worn furniture, chat with friends, or simply soak in the ambient glow of string lights and flickering fires. What elevates Vault 13 beyond a static recreation is its social focus. Somnium Space, and this world is no exception, excels in fostering connections. Grab a virtual drink and mingle in the open spaces.

Vault 13 is highly immersive and versatile, making it accessible for VR newcomers while delighting veterans with its faithful nods to the source material. The lighting and texturing create a moody, atmospheric escape. One important note: It’s true brilliance shines through when using a high-end headset. We use a Somnium VR1 and you can’t really get anything better than that.

Overall, Vault 13 is a glowing success (yeah, pun intended) in Somnium Space’s lineup of (inspired) worlds, breathing new life into a classic Fallout locale. If you’re craving a slice of the apocalypse without the radroaches, dive in. It’s a must-visit for discovery, downtime, and dancing in the dark.
