Hand-Crafted Splendor: Libellule86′ “A Fall in the Jungle” WORLD

Written by MarcDemar

I just had the chance to explore “A Fall in the Jungle” in Somnium Space, a stunning immersive world created by Libellule86, a VR artist known for crafting environments with OpenBrush. And let me tell you—it’s no surprise this masterpiece took 1st place in April’s Somnium Space WORLD-Building Competition, along with a cool $300 prize.

Curious why it stood out? Let’s dive in and take a closer look.

Recognizing the importance of community engagement, Somnium Space launched a Monthly World-Building Competition. This initiative not only incentivizes creativity with cash prizes but also highlights the best creations across the platform’s social channels. This competition serves as both an inspiration and a proving ground for aspiring creators, showcasing the limitless potential of the platform. Those who excel in world-building will not only gain recognition but will also find themselves at the forefront of a rapidly growing digital economy. First off, the moment you step into this virtual jungle, you’re hit with this incredible, otherworldly vibe. The environment is so lush and vibrant – think glowing green foliage, twisted vines, and these surreal, glowing elements like neon plants and sparkling waterfalls that look straight out of a sci-fi dream. The lighting is on point, with warm oranges and cool greens mixing together to create this magical, almost mystical atmosphere. There are even little fire effects and electric sparks that make the whole place feel alive and a bit dangerous, which I loved.

It all looks and feels immensely organic. No wonder as it is totally hand-crafted using Open Brush. It’s like I stepped right into a storybook: breathtaking!

The attention to detail is insane. I spotted these funky, glowing creatures and they added such a cool, fantastical touch. The sound design is awesome too, with ethereal background music, crackling fires, jungle noises and ambient effects that make you feel like you’re really there.

I ran into a few other fellow Somnium Space members hanging out, and it looks like a great spot to explore with friends. It felt like a little community hub in the middle of this wild jungle.

The whole experience is super immersive, and you can tell Libellule86 put her heart into it. It’s the kind of place where you can just wander, take in the sights, and feel like you’ve escaped to another world.

Overall, “A Fall in the Jungle” is a total winner – perfectly deserving of that 1st place spot. If you’re in Somnium Space, you’ve got to check it out. I’d give it a solid 9 out of 10 for the creativity and immersion. What do you think – ready to take a dive into this jungle?

Interview with Libellule86: Painting Emotion in VR with Light, Sound, and History

We recently caught up with Libellule86. With a background as unexpected as her creative style, she brings a unique voice to virtual reality. From poetic dreamscapes to historical reconstructions, Libellule’s work shows how deeply VR can resonate on emotional and intellectual levels.

Thank you so much for reaching out — I’m truly honored by your interest in featuring my work in the Somnium Times! My name is Libellule86. I’m a virtual reality artist creating immersive 3D environments, working primarily with OpenBrush, and also integrating prefabs to bring structure, detail, and atmosphere to my worlds. I started creating in VR in January 2024, coming from an unexpected background — archaeology.

With no formal artistic training, VR has offered me a space of complete freedom, where I can explore emotion, storytelling, and imagination in ways I never imagined.

My goal is to design immersive experiences that connect with people on many levels — from cozy, dreamlike spaces that invite reflection and wonder, to cultural mediation projects that bring historical places to life, and musical worlds powered by AudioLink, where sound becomes a living element in the scene.

One such world is Mystic Space — a meditative, cosmic journey where visuals pulse and evolve in real time with music. In that piece, AudioLink isn’t just a feature — it’s the heartbeat of the world itself.

While I mainly use OpenBrush to create, I also work in Unity to expand my scenes. There, I enjoy applying custom shaders to my drawings — adding surface effects, glow, and movement. I also animate elements to bring rhythm and emotion into the space.

Sound design is essential in my creative process: for me, it’s not just background — it’s part of the emotional structure. Using AudioLink, I synchronize visuals with music, so that viewers don’t just hear the sound — they feel it through the world itself.

Yes! “A Fall in the Jungle” was my entry for the competition — a dreamlike, fantastical playground. It’s a place of wonder and free imagination, inspired by stories like Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.

It’s meant to feel like a gentle fall into a surreal jungle — lush, mysterious, and slightly disorienting. A space where time bends, rules shift, and the impossible becomes natural.

Another important project is “La Porte des Allemands,” a ghostly immersive tour through a 13th-century fortified gate in Metz, France. Created entirely in OpenBrush, the piece blends historical narrative with artistic interpretation. It was part of the exhibition “10 ans déjà” (Sept 21 – Nov 24, 2024) and is now part of a permanent installation at the real site.

The name Libellule — French for “dragonfly” — reflects the heart of my artistic approach: transformation, lightness, nature, and those fleeting moments of wonder that make you pause and feel something real, even in a virtual world.
