Somnium Space recently announced the winners of the December 2025 World Building Competition, the final edition of Somnium Space’s monthly series. Though announced a bit later than usual, the delay stemmed from significant behind-the-scenes changes to the competition process.

Third Place: “When the Lights Were Softer” by Libellule
Taking home $50, Libellule delivered a cozy, atmospheric map that perfectly captured a softer, nostalgic Christmas vibe. Built entirely in Open Brush, the world impressed with its beautiful color palette and seamless integration of the Somnium ARS (audio-reactive system). This fan-favorite creation evokes the warmth of holiday lights and quiet evenings, making it an ideal spot for relaxation.

Second Place: “Santa’s Escape” by IrinaStepArt
Earning $150, IrinaStepArt’s “Santa’s Escape” stands out as an engaging interactive puzzle experience. The world challenges players to think critically while featuring charming Open Brush characters and a spectacular fireworks finale. It is perfect for holiday adventurers seeking a mix of mystery and celebration.

First Place: “Thad’s Magic Mirrors” by Thad Gyther
Claiming the top prize of $300, Thad Gyther wowed with “Thad’s Magic Mirrors,” described as an absolutely beautiful world full of hidden nooks and crannies for chilling out. The centerpiece is an incredibly interactive mirror system offering various effects for playful experimentation. It includes an 8-bit effect, which transports users straight into a Street Fighter vibe. This versatile space excels as a social hangout, scenic retreat, or creative playground.

A Major Shift: End of Monthly World Competitions
There was some bittersweet news: Somnium Space is completely discontinuing the monthly World Building Competition format. The primary reason? Many entrants treated it as a quick “dip and dive” for easy prizes, submitting a world via a form and then vanishing from the community without further engagement.
The goal has always been to foster ongoing participation, skill improvement, bold experimentation, and deep community ties, not one-off cash grabs. This approach wasn’t materializing for most, prompting a full rethink.
The Bright Side: Expanded Opportunities for Somnium Space Ambassadors
The good news is a pivot to empowering Somnium Space Ambassadors. Instead of open monthly contests, ambassadors can now pitch detailed world ideas directly. Upon approval, they receive support to bring their visions to life. No need for fancy competitions.
New ambassador roles have been added, including dedicated spots for streamers and content creators. Becoming an ambassador means proudly representing Somnium Space (“flying the flag”) and committing time and effort to community growth and involvement.
To apply or qualify:
- Reach Karma Level 5 (earned easily through active play, making friends, adding connections, liking content, uploading worlds/wearables, and general engagement in Somnium Space).
- Submit via the new form.
This change aims to curb “pump and dump” behavior and reward genuine, sustained contributors. Somnium Space encourages active players, talented builders, avatar/wearable creators, streamers, and YouTube/TikTok content creators to get involved, sign up friends, and help the metaverse grow together.
As Somnium Space evolves into 2026, the focus shifts toward deeper community integration and ambassador-driven creativity. Congratulations once more to Libellule, IrinaStepArt, and Thad Gyther for capping off 2025 with memorable worlds!
