You can easily browse a user’s Glimmr posts, the worlds they’ve built or own, their marketplace items, and other personal highlights, all presented in a clean, easy-to-navigate layout. What we love as well is the ability to share profiles directly in chat, perfect for quick shoutouts, introducing friends to someone’s creations, or sparking connections without fumbling through menus.
If you love to dance, you’ll be pleased to learn that there are new default dance animations tucked into the pose menu. Whether you’re at a packed virtual party, chilling at an event, or just vibing casually with friends, many fresh moves allow you to express yourself with flair and rhythm, turning any gathering into an impromptu dance floor.
The avatar app has received a complete overhaul, transforming how users discover, manage, and showcase their looks. Navigation feels smoother, with powerful new tools like avatar tags (that creators can set right in the SDK), public search for finding standout designs, NSFW tagging and filters for better content control, favorites and recents lists to keep track of go-to picks, plus robust sorting and filtering options. It’s now much easier to hunt down inspiring avatars or stay organized with your own growing collection of creations.
The Mirror app has been significantly improved as well. Performance is noticeably snappier, and the addition of features like cutout modes, anchoring, pinning, adjustable quality and visibility settings, and more makes checking outfits or fine-tuning details a breeze. It’s ideal for those last-minute tweaks before heading out into the Somnium expanse.
One of the biggest game-changers is the new Content Delivery Network (CDN) integration, which intelligently routes downloads of avatars, wearables, and entire worlds to the server closest to you. The speed boost is dramatic: in optimal conditions, even a multi-gigabyte client can download in under 18 seconds. No more staring at progress bars. New C# Ranking System
The Somnium team has refined the C# scripting system with a stronger emphasis on security, flexibility, and support for professional creators. C# scripting remains blocked by default to protect users and worlds from potential risks. For most creators, the Restricted tier offers a sandboxed environment, ideal for building basic interactions, simple games, and safe mechanics without full access to powerful functions. The Unrestricted tier grants complete scripting freedom, but entering worlds that use it triggers clear warnings to inform visitors upfront. A major new addition is the Studio rank, specifically tailored for established game studios and serious development teams. Studios qualifying for this rank can upload and run anything without pre-entry warnings, streamlining their workflow for complex projects. However, achieving Studio status requires signing a substantial legal agreement, underscoring the platform’s commitment to user safety while empowering high-caliber creators to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the metaverse. These changes, coupled with separating C# tiers from verification roles, create a clearer, more structured progression that balances openness with responsibility.
