Somnium Tavern
Nestled within the persistent, open metaverse of Somnium Space, the Somnium Tavern has become a beloved gathering place for music lovers, builders, and socializers alike. It’s a cozy yet vibrant virtual hotspot where people come together to jam, socialize, and celebrate live performances. The venue recently received a stunning visual upgrade with two distinct lightmaps, giving the space richer depth and atmosphere. Organizers can now fine-tune the mood on the fly thanks to a handy dimmer switch located behind the stage on the right, a feature that made its debut during the June 19th show, perfectly setting the scene for SirenBird’s performance.

Adding to the Tavern’s growing legacy is its famous Wall of Fame. This ever-expanding mural proudly displays the names, logos, and artwork of performers and contributors who have graced its stage. It’s quickly filling up, serving as a living tribute to the incredible talent and creativity flowing through Somnium Space.
Interview with SirenBird
Somnium Times: What first sparked your interest in stepping into virtual reality and performing live as a Vsinger? Was there a particular moment or experience that made you think, “I want to do this in VR”?
SirenBird: When I was in middle school I used to watch content creators playing instruments in call of duty. That’s where I started my music journey by playing piano in video games and been doing that for 2 years. Then I saw one of the content creators record people’s reaction in vrchat back in 2018. It was very wholesome and inspiring. I get to see people happy by just listening to performers play instruments or sing in general. That’s where I wanted to do the same. I didn’t start off as a Vsinger until 2020. I wanted to learn how to sing but I didn’t know where to start. So I joined a musical academy and communities for a bit. It’s where I started performing irl events and my music journey. Then I started performing in open mic in vrchat. I had friends encouraging me and supporting me even to this day which motivates me to be better than myself from before. Seeing myself grow from the start, was truly an experience and achievement in my eyes. Singing in vrchat public instance and events helped me overcome my stage fright. That’s where my passion and love for music grew even more.

Somnium Times: As a colorblind artist who pours her heart into art and singing, how do your passions for visual art and music influence each other? What inspires the songs you choose to perform and the way you present yourself in VR?
SirenBird: I feel like music and arts are the same form of expressing your emotions and having those emotions reach people in a positive way. It’s very relieving to express those emotions either it’s through music or arts. I think they are very similar. I chose the songs to perform in public because I enjoy singing it and it’s relieving. There are a few songs that I actually relate to and I usually let people know before I perform the songs.
I find it very touching seeing people happy and enjoying themselves in the events.
Somnium Times: You performed at the Somnium Tavern on April 30th during Japanese Music Night (alongside Harubid) and returned on June 19th for the Spotlight Sessions & Open Mic with Inoue Tsukiyomi. How were these two performances for you and how did they compare?
SirenBird: I had a blast, it was such a wonderful experience as a performer. Even better when I’m performing along side with different talents and musician friends. I think I was more nervous in the “Japanese Music Night,” because I wasn’t really familiar with the crowd and if they like my songs list. However, the audience was amazing and the sets went well. I don’t think “ The spotlight session” was any different, the events were both amazing and awesome experiences.

Somnium Times: The Somnium Tavern recently added dual lightmaps and a new dimmer switch behind the stage. Your show was the first to use it. How did the updated lighting and atmosphere enhance your performance and connection with the audience?
SirenBird: I feel like it adds an experience and makes things fun for people to watch. The lighting and colors made the experience good, affect the mood of the performance, and helps connect music with others.
I love the community I think they’re awesome and very fun!
Somnium Times: The famous Wall of Fame in the Tavern is filling up fast with names and logos of talented performers. What does it mean to you to see your name among them, and how does it feel to be part of this growing legacy?
SirenBird: When I see my logos and my name in there it means a lot, because I was able to reach people by singing and they’re happy and enjoying my performance in the end of the day. I feel very happy to be part of it.
Somnium Times: What do you like most about performing in Somnium Space compared to other VR platforms or even real-life settings? Is it the technology, the community vibe, the creative freedom, or something else entirely?
SirenBird: I feel like it’s the audio freedom where you can make your microphone go studio mode to perform in a good quality which was so interesting to me. I love the community I think they’re awesome and very fun!

Somnium Times: You perform beautifully in Japanese, English, and Tagalog. What has it been like connecting with such a diverse, international audience through music in VR in general and Somnium in particular?
SirenBird: At first I was pretty nervous to perform internationally and outside of ENG because i wasn’t really confident about it. I was happy that they enjoy the multilingual songs as much as I do. It motivates me to do better than I was before and more!
Somnium Times: Can you share a standout or heartwarming moment from one of your Somnium Tavern shows? Perhaps an interaction with the crowd, something on the big screen, or a reaction that really touched you?
SirenBird: I love people expressing their experiences with my performances and events. I find it very touching seeing people happy and enjoying themselves in the events. I also love it when performers support each other and having an open-mind about the diversity of performing styles. I feel like I learn a lot from performers and my audiences. I just love hearing and seeing reactions of people finding my avatar very cute and pastel to then listening to metal, rock, opera, pop, etc in my performance. It really made my day.
Somnium Times: For other artists, Vsingers, or musicians thinking about performing in Somnium Space or similar immersive worlds, what advice would you give based on your own experiences stepping into this space?
SirenBird: You do what you love no matter what. There’s always space to grow and improve. Don’t let one or more people stop you from doing what you want. What matters is what you can do and your decisions of either you can improve your performance or not. Everyone’s taste are different. There’s no right or wrong.

Somnium Times: How can fans best follow your journey, watch your performances, support your art and music, or even catch you live again?
SirenBird: They can catch me live on YouTube and twitch. I usually post my covers on YouTube. My twitch is SirenBirdVT. My YouTube is SirenBird. If they want to be there in the same instance as me I usually announce my events and location in my discord server. My discord server is called SirenBirdVT
As our conversation with SirenBird drew to a close, it was clear that her journey is more than just performances in virtual space. It as a heartfelt testament to the power of passion, persistence, and community. From discovering music through video games to overcoming stage fright in VRChat and lighting up the Somnium Tavern stage, SirenBird continues to prove that authentic expression knows no boundaries, whether in pixels or real life.
Her story reminds us that VR isn’t just a platform for entertainment, it’s a vibrant stage where artists can connect across languages, cultures, and emotions. Whether she’s delivering powerful multilingual covers or simply sharing her pastel-colored joy with the audience, SirenBird’s warmth and dedication leave a lasting impression on everyone who experiences her shows.
Thank you, SirenBird, for your inspiring words and beautiful performances. The Wall of Fame at Somnium Tavern shines a little brighter with your name on it, and we can’t wait to see (and hear) where your musical journey takes you next.
