Whilst investigating the disappearance of a Somnium Space member, adventurer Marc Demar uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed hammer circulating amongst those who inhabit the areas around the Lonely Diver Mountain range – a remote corner of Somnium.
As soon as anyone uses the hammer, he or she has exactly 13 days left to live.
During their last 13 days the doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look distorted.
Marc gets hold of the hammer, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into his mind. And when he notices he looks distorted in pictures, he realizes that the curse of the hammer is true.
