Have you watched the video featuring Artur Sychov, the founder and CEO of Somnium Space, providing a review of the soon to be released VR1 headset within the Somnium Space environment, utilizing that same VR1 headset? If you haven’t, it’s highly recommended. The footage is truly remarkable in my opinion. Throughout the review, you not only get a virtual look at the headset but also a compelling demonstration of its visual fidelity. As an added bonus, you’ll also get a sneak peek at the splendor of Somnium 3.0 (city center), set to be released soon.
Artur unveils the fully equipped version of the VR1, also known as the “bad boy,” featuring eye and hand tracking along with mixed reality cameras. This presentation style is quite captivating, providing an authentic preview of what Somnium (and other experiences) will be like when experiencing it through this exciting new product. The immersive experience extends to both visuals and audio. The two microphones of the VR1 deliver great quality, capturing Artur’s voice flawlessly with minimal noise and an a great frequency response.
The VR model of the VR1 itself is aesthetically pleasing. By the way, if you happen to be a Somnium 3.0 alpha tester, you can locate it at the city center and explore it firsthand. There’s an allure to this headset that sparks a desire to own one. Much of this attraction is attributed to its remarkable field of view, crystal-clear image, and other outstanding features. To put it simply, the VR1 stands as a cutting-edge headset. However, it’s the comprehensive philosophy underlying the VR1 that resonates with me. Being fully manufactured in the EU, modular, and open source, it represents a device I can genuinely personalize and utilize for an extended period.
Undoubtedly, it’s not a device suited for everyone. The starting price for the base version is 1899 Euros as indicated on the website. However, at this price point, you’re investing in something genuinely distinctive – a high quality device that becomes truly yours. Personally, I plan to use the device in its standard configuration, but the potential is immense when considering the 3D printable, modular components, access to sensors, programmability, and more. Just envision what individuals will be capable of achieving with such versatility and customization options.
I can’t wait to venture into Somnium 3.0 with the VR1, just like Artur did.
