About this series
“Chronicles of Miranelle” is an original sci-fi chronicle penned by Somnium Space veteran Wooferblast — a master of immersive storytelling and digital world-building. Through haunting prose and vivid imagination, he invites us aboard humanity’s last great voyage: a journey beyond Earth, beyond biology, and beyond reality itself. Each chapter is a portal into a richly layered future, where consciousness, technology, and survival entwine in unexpected ways.
“Chronicles of Miranelle” isn’t just a story — it’s a multi-layered journey that invites you to go beyond the page. Step directly into the world of Miranelle by visiting the immersive experience “Postwar Miranelle” inside Somnium Space. It’s a virtual environment that brings the narrative to life with ruins, remnants, and a museum dedicated to this lost world. Whether you’re exploring in VR or through the 2D Desktop Client, this world invites you to feel the echoes of a civilization in transition. In transit – As told by Captain Kylar Arendis, 2068
Kylar: I’ve had plenty of time to think about this. Probably too much. As we travel through space towards our final destination, I wonder about the future of mankind – what is left of it anyway. The decision to make this journey was a tough one for all of us, but hey, what choice did we have, really?

Earth’s decline was slow but inexorable: climate catastrophes, resource depletion, economic disintegration, and the fall of centralized governance. Major ecological systems collapsed, leading to widespread famine, disease, and war. Always war. The last stages were marked by mass migrations, corporate-controlled enclaves, and a scattering of survivors, both human and trans-human.
As our planet slowly collapsed, we searched desperately for a way out. After years of exploration, in 2059 a distant, habitable world was found – the planet Miranelle. So now, here we are. Traveling to a strange world we know very little about.

There are 250 souls under my command — scientists, artists, engineers, dreamers. Most are volunteers. A few are here because they have nowhere else to go. One man left his children behind to buy them a future. One woman is uploading with stage four cancer and a smile on her face. I can’t judge them. I’m here too, aren’t I?
We have three types of settlers aboard this ship:
Humans – Less than a third of us are naturals. More and more of us are deciding to take digital form. For those who still wish to retain a physical form, bio-modification is a common practice. People augment themselves with nanomachines, bionic limbs, neural interfaces, and even genetic engineering. It is common for inhabitants of Miranelle to have enhanced strength, intelligence, or sensory abilities. Some opt for hybrid forms, integrating organic and synthetic parts in ways that defy the old distinctions between human and machine.
Ascendants – Many of the settlers chose to upload their consciousnesses into vast digital repositories, maintained by Draven Nyros and ten trusted Acolytes. Physical bodies are considered optional. These “Ascendants” are not bound by the constraints of flesh and blood; they are free to explore simulated worlds, alter their perceptions, and live in a state of intellectual and emotional freedom.
The AI – Purely digital. Always have been and always will be. AI entities co-exist with their human counterparts, not as tools or servants, but as equals — partners in shaping the society and its future. These AIs, many of them evolving from early Earth-based technologies, are highly specialized and serve as everything from advisors to co-creators, helping guide Miranelle through its continuous transformation.
Tomorrow, we cross!
Our minds will be scanned, mapped, and streamed into the Miranelle substrate. Bodies will sleep in pods, guarded by auto-drones and guarded lies.
I told the team to write letters. Just in case. Not goodbye. Just… in case. Because this isn’t spaceflight. This is something far stranger:
We are not leaving Earth. We are leaving reality.
