Users stepping into Somnium with version 3.0.5 will immediately feel the difference. From quicker World loading times to refined World downloading interfaces, performance has seen a noticeable boost. Whether you’re navigating your personal World or entering one of the many community-built experiences, the responsiveness is faster and the visuals more refined. One thing that really stands out, is the more natural and smooth transition when you enter a World. Previously you would find yourself in a void before entering another experience. No more. Everything has become way more natural and fluid with this update. You’ll always feel immersed in the same expansive Somnium universe, no matter where you venture. That immersive universe keeps expanding every day by the way, as new Worlds are constantly being uploaded.
But it’s not only in VR the changes are noticeable. Visit Somnium on the Web and you’ll encounter a smoother, faster homepage, whether you access it via a PC or mobile.
Big SDK Enhancements for World Builders
For creators working in Unity, this has been upgraded to Unity 2022.3.62f1, unlocking stability and performance benefits. But the changes go far deeper than version numbers. The Somnium Unity SDK now offers a Welcome Window that helps new creators jump in more easily by generating scene templates with a click of a button, based on official Somnium examples.
Even if you’ve never touched Unity before, the learning curve isn’t as steep as you might think. With Somnium’s built-in tools, clear templates, and intuitive onboarding features, getting started is more accessible than ever – no expert knowledge required.
Other huge additions are new Bridge Components, which allow for spawning Tip Jars and custom and minted building items, wearables and avatars inside Worlds. Imagine the possibilities. This powers entire use cases, where other users can visit your Worlds, check-out your items, and tip you on the go using the Tip Jar.
