If you have explored a Somnium World in Somnium Space then you know how expansive they can be. Limited only by your imagination and Megabytes (Small 75MB, Medium 200MB and Extra Large 500MB). New developments are being programmed, scripted, and tested daily by creators and participants through games, events, and just plain exploration. Artific is one of the creators who has latched on to the Worlds idea and has been on the forefront of developing this project further. In fact, he has even rebranded to concentrate more time and resources towards expediting this process. Artific is a staple of the Somnium Space community.
When you go exploring during the daily meet up you can spot Artific from kilometers away. Draped in sky-blue his Metaverse Traveler avatar named Noi is immutable and you can watch as his energy pierces through the clouds and ascends into the galactic corona of our galaxy. When he is not exploring the cosmos, he is consistently pushing boundaries in game-development, expanding/creating Worlds and innovating new script systems for all to behold and benefit from the discoveries.
When he is not calculating the combustion chemistry of his propulsion and reaction-mass energy acceleration, he is hosting events, collaborating with fellow creators, and studying on how to improve the way we interact with game objects, collider triggers, and anchor points in Worlds visual scripting. This constant drive he has, to expand our abilities and range of mechanic systems in Somnium Space, is what will make the biggest difference hands-down (pun intended) and should let you know that he is on our side.
Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Artific and I create worlds. I never thought that can be a real thing to say but it is. In Somnium it’s different than making games and experiences. It really is like building parallel realities.
What got you into Dev work initially?
As a young kid I wanted to be sculptor. Little later I got my first PC and I wanted to become a programmer. Digital worlds fascinated me. I wanted to be someone who creates them. By series of coincidences, I got my first job in data analysis, and I stuck to this field. It was NFT space that revived my passion to create. And it was Artur, Somnium Space, and many people from the community that opened my eyes to this new metaverse reality.
What led the way to Somnium Space?
When I discovered NFT space through crypto in February 2021, I was lost. I had no idea how this space works. 9 months later and still have more questions than answers. But I learned about blockchain worlds and I started doing my research in this area. I ended up identifying Somnium Space and Sandbox as the two that have a really bright future ahead of them. I was wrong about Sandbox but I was so right about Somnium Space.
Can you tell me briefly about some projects you’re working on now?
I founded Art & Coffee metaverse gallery project. I was doing live metaverse exhibitions, podcasts and drops for many nft artists. With the release of Somnium Worlds SDK, I transformed this project into Oasis Meta Games (OMG). OMG is a project that builds worlds, avatars, other assets for metaverse builders and travelers; exclusively for Somnium Space. One of our goals is to be a gateway for artists into Somnium Space Worlds. We are publishing artworks and art assets into Somnium Worlds SDK. And we are creating our own worlds and experiences. Blake and UltraLord partnered with me to build this project together.
I am also one of the artists working on @Sail_the_Stars project. A project that brought together over 80 artists. We are creating epic artworks with a goal to use the sales to fund a real-world sailing boat and use it to sail the world and make great content and art while we are at it. I joined @Natural_Warp and @TCyberpunk88 on another project to create V-RACE avatars for Somnium Space. They are customizable premium avatars that match previously released car collections. I am designing special effects for this collection as well.
What motivated you to go in this direction of developing Worlds in Somnium Space?
This is the ultimate platform for any creator. I haven’t seen anything that is more fulfilling and fun than this.
What are the biggest challenges of working on this aspect of creating? Worlds? Avatars? Unity Scripting?
The biggest challenge in creating worlds is lack of documentation and best practices. Worlds SDK is in alpha version and that means that there is additional hustle to make your designs reality. But that’s just the natural part of being on the frontier.
Avatars are different story. Avatar’s SDK has been here much longer and there is huge amount of resources on how to do almost everything. Biggest challenge with avatar creation for me is modeling. I am not very good at that but that’s just because I don’t have enough practice. I have been scripting one way or the other for most of my adult life. So I enjoy that part more.
In your opinion what do you think will be the biggest trends in web3 development?
Once VR enters mainstream people will start looking for unique avatars, clothes, buildings and so many other things for their life in the metaverse. There will be a huge renaissance of all kinds of art with utility. We can’t even imagine how big and transformative it’s going to be.
