Wooferblast a multi talented Somnium Space local who has made his own contributions to virtual reality by his enthusiasm for art. A deep desire to create a strong sense of depth to Somnium motivated this brilliant mind to extend his talents and expertise to this virtual experience; bringing about his own colors and textures to add to the beautiful canvas of the Somnium community. His inspirational creation of the Museum of Mystery and Folklore on parcel 2109 is just that! With the conceptualization to add layers of “old” to highlight a “once ancient” Somnium Space; and the additions of mystical tales of what this metaverse could have looked like before the foundations were encrypted. A museum to ignite visitors senses. To imagine the surreal, and the imaginary. Discover artifacts, and quench the deep desire for exploration into what “has been,” or “could be.” He has yet again extended his mind. Intrigued readers. Meet Wooferblast and learn more about the Museum of Mystery and Folklore.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I grew up in a family of musicians so I have been a musician for most of my life. I played bass guitar, and drums in several bands. I began studying art in college, it all started at a commercial art school. To which I immediately hated, so I dropped out after one year. I later started studying at the Art Academy of Cincinnati (a fine arts academy) where I studied painting for one year, and then went back full-time for another four years to get a degree. My major in college was photography; though I actually concentrated on conceptual art and performance art. I bought a Commodore 64 computer and began writing little graphics programs, and light show programs for my band. It wasn’t long before I got hooked on computers and got a job making web pages for the area’s first Internet provider. I wrote a program that generated random art, made some prints, and the prints were displayed at the first exhibition of computer-generated art in the region. I love music and art so I like to blend them together – to me they are the same thing.
When and how did you discover Somnium Space?
Blake Hotz used to host a weekly Twitch stream, and a bunch of us would create music together every week. While we listened to music, we would chat. After a while, Blake started rambling on and on about this place called Somnium Space and VR. He kept it up until I came to Somnium Space to see what all the fuss was about. I’ve been here ever since! I love it! (Thanks, Blake.)

What’s the idea behind the Museum of Mystery and Folklore?
Every civilization has stories and traditions that are passed down through the ages. Of course, they have superstitions and beliefs that give a civilization character. A soul! Somnium Space being an artificially created civilization, doesn’t have this kind of a past. I saw need, so I am trying in a small way to create it. I am not trying to document what is happening in Somnium Space currently. Nor am I trying to be realistic about it. I am trying to create an imaginary history of “ancient times.” In order to give Somnium Space some depth. A time before all of us arrived. By creating characters, artifacts, and “finding” ruins, I am hoping to give Somnium Space a foundation.
What do envision for the museum’s future?
I don’t own a parcel of my own so there is no way for me to create a permanent museum. I would like to find a home for the museum. Then I can expand it and even hold events. I’ll continue to find new archeological artifacts, create new characters, and uncover mysteries. I want to stimulate your imagination and inspire people to look beyond the obvious. I want people to open their minds and explore the unknown. I want to give you something to wonder about.

Lastly, what are you most excited about in Somnium Space?
The true power and value of Somnium Space is in it’s users. People! We have some imaginative, intelligent, and energetic people in Somium Space. I love talking to you all, sharing ideas, and having fun. Without our active community, Somnium Space would be a very boring place. Also, I love building things. There is something truly magical about being able to create something straight from your imagination, and later being able to walk into it in VR. I never get tired of that. Let’s rid Somnium Space of all of those empty parcels. Build something beautiful!
